The Reader, Icarus and The Spirit – Behind the Scenes #22
Hey MovieSetters! We have a new episode of Behind the Scenes ready for you! This week we talk about Kate Winslet’s Oscar winning performance in the movie The Reader, followed by a look at the new Dolph Lundgren movie Icarus and Frank Miller’s The Spirit.

First off we check out The Reader. The movie opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg (Ralph Fiennes) becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna (Kate Winslet), a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair. Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken. Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life this time as a defendant in the courtroom.

Don’t forget to check out the sitelet. The movie is about a Swedish, i mean Russian spy, named Icarus. Here’s a synopsis.
There were those who called him Icarus. Everyone else knew him as a divorced father working for an investment company. But they didnt know his other sidehis dark side. Because Icarus (Dolph Lundgren) was at his best when he was killing people. For years, hed worked as a sleeper agent in Americabut when the Soviet Empire collapsed, he found himself in a foreign country with no one to trust. Determined to break from his dark past, he started over with a new identity. But you can only escape your past for so long.
Adapted from the legendary comic strip, THE SPIRIT is a classic action-adventure-romance told by genre-twister FRANK MILLER (creator of 300 and SIN CITY). It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the OCTOPUS (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: hes going to wipe out Spirit’s beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality.

12 Rounds of Monsters vs Aliens – Behind the Scenes #15
Welcome to Behind the Scenes episode #15! In this weeks webisode we feature 3 films, “Monsters Vs Aliens“, “Haunting in Connecticut” and “12 rounds“. We also want to let you know about some of the contests that we have going on right now! All three movies release on March 27th 2009.
Monsters Vs Aliens is about a California girl called Susan Murphy who is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day. As a result she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. Alerted to the threat of this new monster, the military jumps into action and Susan is captured and secreted away to a covert government compound. Her confinement is cut short, however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. Next we talk about the new horror flick from director Peter Cornwell ‘Haunting in Connecticut‘. When Sara and Peter Campbell’s son Matt is diagnosed with cancer, they uproot their family to Connecticut for his treatment. As the family settles into their new home, Matt grows increasingly disturbed by paranormal activity that seems to inhabit and possess the house. At a loss to help her frightened family, his mother turns to an enigmatic priest who appears to rid the house of its ghosts– until the boy’s condition takes a sudden and unexplained turn for the worse and their lives are put in grave danger.
Lastly we take a look at ‘12 rounds‘ starring John Cena as New Orleans Police Detective Danny Fisher. When Fisher stops a brilliant thief, Miles, from getting away with a multi-million-dollar heist, the thiefs girlfriend is accidentally killed. After escaping from prison, the criminal mastermind enacts his revenge, taunting Danny with a series of near-impossible puzzles and tasks 12 roundsthat Danny must somehow complete to save the life of his fiancée. Welcome to another episode of Behind the Scenes. In this weeks episode, entitled Gigantic King of Fighters Rule – Behind the Scenes #14 we take a look at the video game inspired action flick “King of Fighters” followed by a quick checkup with Matt Aselton’s “Gigantic” and the new movie “Rules“.

In Gigantic, Brian Weathersby (Paul Dano) is a 28 year-old salesman at a high-end Swedish mattress company. The afterthought child to elderly parents, and the youngest son in a trio of successful brothers, a shady oil man, a surgeon, Brian is searching for his place in the world. Unfulfilled by his work he spends a good portion of his day pursuing his goal of someday adopting a baby from China. He gets swept up in a romance with the lovely but misguided Harriet Lolly (Zooey Deschanel) when she comes in to his store one day and falls asleep on one of the beds. To win her over, he must compete with her bear of a father, Al Lolly, an art-collecting loudmouth with a bad back and deep pockets.
Finally we check out an indie film which is slowly gaining a cult following. The movie “Rules“ is about a Nightclub security guard who is t filled with hate, particularly after being shunned by society and seeing his life spiral out of control. The constant refusals, insults and embarrassments have worn him down, eventually causing him to snap and promising to punish anyone who disrespects him.
